For tour dates and locations, visit the Upcoming Shows page!

Rockin Around the PlanetA travelling popfest of sorts, your favorite globetrotting pop geniuses will enthrall and entertain you and all your friends, whom you are about to invite to the show!

Our favorites are The Beatles, The Kinks, NRBQ, Os Mutantes, Kevin Ayers, Of montreal, Small Faces, The Who...etc. Fabulous pop melody, little twist of psychedelic and strange feelings, And of course, Rock and Roll at heart.
You know what I mean ! Those feelings are just driving us crazy.

“The Beatles influenced Brazilian band playing Rock and Roll with Portuguese.
We are influenced from that kind of band and playing Rock and Roll with Japanese and English...that ’s us, with the simplest self-introduction.”
Youichi Sakamoto (elekibass vocals)

If you’ve never heard Casper & the Cookies, do yourself a favor; dismiss any preconceived notions. Forget that Jason played with of Montreal. Cast aside the reports of live shows replete with fake eyelashes, though it does look fantastic. You’re going to have to take Casper & the Cookies on their own terms. Fail to do so and you will miss some of the most original pop music to come along in years. Over the course of three albums Athens, GA’s finest have managed to carve out an aesthetic all their own, a labyrinthine tangle of ear-worm melodies, plot-twist production, and the history of popular music.

You cannot escape the charm and wit of KJA. You will pay special attention to his economically constructed songs, frequently performed solo and in the faces and laps of his audience. You'll probably buy one of his CDs. That's just how it is with the KJA.

We're winding down after a busy summer of touring, but that doesn't mean we're done for the year! We have another great show coming up, playing with our pals, LAKE, Karl Blau, and ODeath at the Secret Squirrel, here in Athens on 11/7. But for those of you who aren't in Athens, we have a couple of sweet treats for your Halloween!

First of all, we'd like to present our new video for Little King. Hand drawn by our wonderful friend Fredrick Arnold, you've just got to see it to believe it.

As a matter of fact, we're so excited about this video, that in it's honor, we're going to run a SPECIAL for the month of November! Vinyl copies of Modern Silence will be marked down to $15 (+shipping)!! There will be some other markdowns in our store, as well.

The Release Party for Modern Silence is officially set for May 30, at the Caledonia Lounge.  We will be joined by our buds, The Lolligags and Marshmallow Coast.  We’ve been waiting a long time for this to happen, so it will be a party!!!

We are heading up north earlier in the month to play the NYC Popfest (May 17). A lot of really great bands will be playing over the course of the weekend, and we can’t wait to get back to the Cake Shop!

In April, we are playing our last in-town show (until the CD release) on the 10th with Allison Weiss and Spring Tigers, and will be playing a live Have You Heard? Session in Atlanta at the Star Bar on April 23rd.

We’re working on new t-shirts, using Matt Blanks’ amazing artwork, so keep an eye out for those!  In the meantime, we’re glad to be back in Athens, but now we’ve recovered and are ready to do it again!  Stay tuned for more tour dates.

Annnd we're off...well, almost.  We played a really fun show in Augusta, GA on Saturday, and now the official tour is starting tomorrow in Savannah.  It's been a little rocky around here, and the 7" of snow we got last week didn't help (don't laugh, you northerners---EVERYTHING shuts down when it snows down here--including the power).  But the lights and internet are back, the oil is being changed, and the lashes are ...whatever lashes are (ask Jim).

We're getting to play with a lot of really great bands these next three weeks, and yes, we WILL have some pre-release CD copies of Modern Silence.  We're looking forward to seeing everyone and playing some new songs!

Love from the Cookie Compound....

Randy BewleyWe love you Randy.
As most of you probably know by now, Athens guitar giant Randy Bewley passed away this week.  It's been a very difficult week, but the Cookies spent practice remembering what a wonderful person and influential guitarist Randy was.  Mostly known for his work as Pylon's guitarist, Randy also played in Athens bands Sound Houses and Supercluster.  I was lucky enough to play with him for almost two years in Supercluster.  Not only was I honored to be in the presence of such an amazing an innovative guitarist, I got a chance to know Randy as a person.  He made it easy to forget that he was an icon by being so down to earth and just an all around sweet person.

Randy would crack this smalll little smile that just made you think he knew a little more about everything than you possibly could, and that he knew that, too, but that it was absolutely cool.  As a guitarist, I was always amazed at how good his ear was.  His tuning was atypical, but when Supercluster would start to jam,  he'd jump in there with some amazing lick or texture that really made the whole thing gel.  And for anyone who's ever seen him on stage with Pylon, they know how great he was.  I don't know if he really thought about just how much he influenced musicians everywhere.  He influenced people who probably don't even realize they were influenced by him.  It's so easy not to notice, because in Athens, even ginats are demure.

There is so much more to say about this wonderful person, Randy Bewley, but all I can say now is you will be missed greatly.

A hefty tour out to SXSW in March is coming together, with some Florida stops on the way there and some Midwest shows after the festival. We'll be doing several of these shows with our good buddies, Everthus the Deadbeats (Indianapolis) Check our Upcoming Shows page in early 2009 for listings.

Welcome to the new Casper & the Cookies website! It still has a few kinks that we're working out, but we'll just keep making it better.

A lot has been going on while Kay has been sweating over designing this thing. First of all, we FINALLY got all of the episodes of Watashi Wa Vegetarian (footage from our Japanese tour earlier this year) uploaded! Go to the Videos Page for links.

We are also gearing up to play a micro-tour with Dressy Bessy. Just a couple of dates in the Southeast, but I PROMISE we'll cover the rest of the states soon, soon, soon!

In other news, we have a new logo. It was inspired by John Cage. You can get a t-shirt featuring it in the Store.
